The lower tier was basically fodder for getting eyes in a room before the hirelings and other drone went in, but it was all kinds of fun sending them through ducts, firing a few shots off, then popping them back into the ducts before their targets could return fire. I usually used two combat drones for fights (one from the highest available tier, and one from the next tier down). Rigger/Deckers get you into lots of fun places. They also don't have to worry about running into combat without cover (which gets you slaughtered with melee Sams and Physical Adepts). They take longer to develop, since they need three trees (Quickness, Ranged Combat, Rifle) instead of two, but they hit pretty reliably anyway. Mages also have a ton of variety by the time they get to the top tier: several single-target damage spells, several AoEs, several buffs, several crowd control spells. By the time you hit the last mission, you can be maxed at 11 WP, 11 Spellcasting (thanks to the +1 WP/SC from your outfit) and 11 Body, with 3 Charisma/3 Spirit Summoning for the Bear Totem's PBAoE heal (which doesn't take up a spell slot, so it's a bonus spell). Mage just needs Willpower and Spellcasting, which means they're pumping all their points into two trees, giving them ridiculous hit chances very early. Having played through the campaign with a rifle Samurai, unarmed Physical Adept, spirit/conjuring Shaman, Decker/Rigger and Mage, I think the Mage and ranged Samurai were the easiest, though I'm tempted to say the Decker/Rigger was the most fun. Physical Adepts just add WP and Chi Casting to that. If you want to combine Samurai with something, Physical Adepts are essentially melee Samurai that use spell buffs instead of implants (both use Strength, Close Combat and either Melee Weapons or Unarmed). If you're going to go Rigger, Decker's the best combination since it shares the Intelligence stat. You won't be able to max both Drone Combat and Melee weapons, which means something's going to be missing a lot. ![]() Drone Combat (which requires Drone Control, which requires Intelligence) determines the drone's hit chance, Melee Weapons (which requires Close Combat, which requires Strength) determines your weapon's hit chance. ![]() That's a lot of trees to spread points across, without even factoring in Body. ![]() A melee Samurai's going to need to improve Strength, Close Combat and Melee Weapons, a Rigger's going to need Intelligence, Drone Control and Drone Combat. Problem with a samurai/rigger hybrid is the aforementioned "spreading yourself too thin" issue.
